One year ago, we set out to create a new way to make a difference for homeless people and neighbors in need. In 2013 we kicked off a pilot program with our community partner Project Homeless Connect and in March of 2014 began adding new partners in San Francisco. Today, HandUp is a powerful platform for direct donations, reaching hundreds of people who need help with the basics.
Our goal was to create a channel for you to directly impact someone’s life. We built the channel and now you are the ones making the difference. In just one year, your donations have made a significant impact on the San Francisco community:
- $75,000 in donations, 100% of which goes to our members’ needs
- 812 conversations exchanged between donors and members with words of support
- 706 needs fulfilled from healthcare to housing to technology support
- 200 members signed up on the platform, working towards their goals
We also hit a few big company milestones this year starting with the closing of our $850k seed funding round. It’s already been put to use in expanding community partners nationwide including Compass Family Services, North Beach Citizens, andRaphael House in San Francisco, and Community Outreach in Oregon.
