3 Fundraising Campaigns Do's and Don'ts

Storytelling

  • DO be detailed. This is how you can emotionally connect with your donors so make sure your story is interesting and informative.
  • DON'T forget to outline your goals by answering questions like who are you impacting, what is the time frame? and how can donors help?

Engagement

  • DO engage your donors by responding to comments, posting updates, and sharing pictures to encourage future donations.
  • DON'T be afraid to repeat yourself. It can take time for donors to get to know your campaign, so send multiple e-mails to let them know how to get involved.

Social Media

  • DO plan your content. Take advantage of social media by planning clear and thoughtful content that helps donors focus on your campaign.
  • DON'T tweet before you seed. Donors like momentum! That's why we suggest waiting until you've hit 30% of your goal before promoting your campaign on any social media.

HandUp Fundraisers are our new peer-to-peer fundraising tool! Fundraisers link to HandUp Campaigns, or personal fundraising pages that nonprofits use to raise money online. That's why before your donors can start fundraising for your cause, it's important for you to set up your HandUp Campaign. Click here for more information about HandUp Campaigns.

When you launch a HandUp Campaign, the top portion will look something like this:

Under the “About” section of your HandUp Campaign, your donors will see a “Fundraisers” section. By clicking the plus icon they can create a Fundraiser in under 2 minutes!

Your supporters can edit their Fundraisers to create a personal goal and headline.

Setting up a Fundraiser is simply, fast, and all donations will be linked directly to your Campaign!

Steps to get you started:

  1. Launch a HandUp Campaign

2. Create a list of supporters to reach out to

 3. Ask your supporters to create a HandUp Fundraiser

*Tip: If your supporters need a quick explanation of how they can set up a Fundraiser, send them this video! It will give them a sneak peak of the process in 1 minute.

Women's History Month Spotlight: Lizzie Glide

This month we celebrate powerful change-making women like Elizabeth Snyder Glide, better know as Lizzie Glide. Born before women had the right to vote in the U.S., Lizzie would spend her life spreading the message compassion.

After the death of her husband, she took over the Glide business and channeled much of her wealth into church work. She would go on to found Glide Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church and Mary Elizabeth Inn.

In the early part of the 20th century, San Francisco was a rough and dangerous place for women. One day, Lizzie stopped a woman on the street and asked her what she would do if she had a large sum of money to use to better others. The woman replied that she would build a safe home for working women. In 1914, Lizzie gave her first gift to San Francisco: The Mary Elizabeth Inn.
— Rev. Karen Oliveto, Pastor

For over 100 years, The Mary Elizabeth Inn has continued the legacy of Lizzie Glide by serving women in need including those experiencing homelessness and victims of domestic violence.  Currently they’re fundraising for their Free Meals Program which serves over 18,000 meals every year but has no dedicated source of funding.

Celebrate Women’s History Month and Lizzie Glide with a donation to Mary Elizabeth Inn!
